Sara's Rising by Coffey Agnello is a heart-wrenching yet ultimately triumphant story of abuse. Sara was born to an emotionally unstable, party-addict mother and a jealous father. She was the "save the marriage" baby, but her parents divorced when she was three. Sara loved reading as books were her escape from the reality around her. As a child, Sara witnessed many horrifying things and horrendous deeds were done to her—all because of her mother and upbringing. She witnessed physical and sexual abuse and was the victim of incest at a very young age. As her mother changed men like socks and manipulated them, they moved a lot and never found peace. But after many years of abuse, Sara finally got the chance to break the cycle of abuse.

Sara's Rising captures the horrors of a childhood filled with abuse, neglect, abandonment, violence, and trauma. Coffey Agnello has crafted a painful short story that blurs the lines between fiction and non-fiction. This story of childhood trauma, its heartbreaking consequences, and survival cannot fail to move you. It's emotionally engaging as every page brings new disturbing details about physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Through this story, Sara's incredible resilience and strength to learn to love herself and to believe she deserves happiness shine. Anyone interested in a first-person account of a tragic life and healing journey should read this book. Sara's Rising offers those who suffered abuse and childhood trauma hope and inspiration. It reveals the enduring strength of the human spirit to fight for survival and healing and search for happiness and hope.
