Scarred by Twyla Turner is the story of two people who are deeply hurt, yet they are still alive and trying to live the best way they can. Alexis Bolden is not an ordinary girl. From the very beginning, her life was full of tragedy. She has seen her parents die, she has suffered from domestic abuse, and now she has had enough. After her latest incident of abuse, she is ready to change things. She files a complaint against her abuser and sets out to put her life straight.
Sloan Stryker might be hurt by the enemy, but nothing hurt more than when he was rejected by his family. He is a war veteran, a man who proudly served his country. But too many scars on his body have left his mind numb. With a serious case of PTSD, he is out to restart his life alone, without the support of his family. By a strange coincidence, they meet and together they try to form a friendship and beat their demons together.
This is a novel that made me sigh at multiple points. Scarred was such an emotional roller-coaster ride, but it was a good roller-coaster ride. I loved the way Alexis and Sloan became each other’s friend, shield, and then a couple. Both of them were well developed characters, who knew what they were doing, knew the consequences, and made their decisions. This book was truly a joy to read. Their struggles were real, relatable and understandable. A job well done.
