Zoey Talbot can see beyond ordinary things. She "sees" magical creatures, like pixies, playing in her backyard. Zoey must be registered as a Mythic and comply with the laws "normal" humans know nothing about. However, her mother makes Zoey wear a special pendant to hide her gift. She is sure that the Others are dangerous and can harm her daughter. One day, seventeen-year-old Zoey cannot protect her mother from a demon, and she dies in Zoey's arms. Zoey dedicates her life to finding her mother's murderer. She meets a half-demon named Tristan, who helps her navigate the treacherous realms of the Others. But everything has its price, and Tristan asks Zoey to pay him back. An ancient artifact gets stuck on Zoey's finger, putting her life at even more risk. Seeing Gray by C. E. Brown, the first book in the Secrets of the Sight series, will appeal to young adult fans of urban fantasy, action, and adventure.

In Seeing Gray, C. E. Brown offers an endless adventure. This imaginative novel will engage adult readers of fantasy too. The author avoids clichés, crafting magnificent worlds of magic and strange creatures. Among them, Len the gargoyle is one to remember! Zoey is a complex character, promising exciting further development. Sometimes, Zoey acts like a willful teenager. Yet she is capable of self-sacrifice and genuine friendship. Zoey's relationship with the gorgeous Tristan is fun to follow. There is a hint of romance between these two that makes me eager for the next installment. Tristan is shrouded in mystery, and Zoey needs to solve it to be safe. Brown creates a unique dynamic between them, adding zest to the narrative. The author uses the rich symbolism of Tarot cards to give us food for thought. The captivating first-person narration is fast-paced. While leaving a bittersweet aftertaste, the ending of this coming-of-age story is very satisfying. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
