For having many characters in a book, Shattered Glass is well developed and mesmerizing. Jennifer Toussaint-Cali  begins her story with Elodie Jacobs facing her abusive husband. As a successful attorney, it surprises her where her marriage stands and she refuses to take Malcolm’s cruel treatment any longer. At that point she finds they have approved her adoption request and she will adopt twin twelve-year-olds she fell in love with the previous year. From there, life throws her into a world of bigotry, human trafficking, and having to protect the ones she loves. She doubts she has the strength to handle the battle warring from all sides, but if she doesn’t, all is in vain. She refuses to let the people around her die for her lack of trying.

Shattered Glass is unusual as it combines political thriller, romance, and a crime ring all into one novel. Jennifer Toussaint-Cali has a way of writing which is fascinating and breathtaking, while the plot is deep and multi-layered. As the story peels away each layer from the vile leader’s identity, the pace quickens to protect the people who know the truth. What I once thought of as fact becomes fiction when motives are revealed. The characters are captivating as many of them have a connection in the past and reunite when the reader least expects them to do so. This is one novel I will remember for years to come because of the exceptional characters and distinctive plot. The author is brilliant as she seizes the attention of the reader until she uncovers all. Alarming discoveries abound until the end.
