Shelter from the Storm by T.J. Medeiros, the second book in the Terry Eckhart Series, follows Kara Wilder and her husband, Dustin Green, who pull off a daring daylight robbery before vanishing and landing on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. Ally confides in her lover, Detective Terry Eckhart, about her mother Kara’s upcoming parole hearing, and asks for his help in uncovering the truth about her parents’ past. Before leaving for New York, Terry is called to a gruesome crime scene near the Sutro Baths, where a murdered woman had his name written on her chest and his badge number scrawled on a wall. Ally’s father reveals clues to the lost fortune, but she is in danger. With his partner Nick’s help, Terry must solve the grisly puzzle, protect Ally, and stop a ruthless killer who seems to have a personal vendetta against him.

Shelter from the Storm by T.J. Medeiros is a complex and intriguing story that kept me on edge from start to finish. The fast-paced plot is packed with action and suspense, with multiple storylines seamlessly woven together. The engaging writing style made it easy to step into Kara and Dustin’s world and experience their struggles and emotions firsthand. With the unexpected twists and turns, I was always guessing what would happen next. I found it impossible to put the book down and was turning the pages as fast as possible. The characters felt authentic and relatable, especially Ally, whose determination to uncover the truth about her parents’ past made her my favorite. The book was expertly written and contained all the elements of an exceptional read. I enjoyed reading this book, and it lingered in my mind long after the final page.

Shelter From The Storm by T.J. Medeirosis is a well-written novel that tells the story of Ally and Terry as they find themselves in a world of crime and mystery. After an armored car heist by the last members of a radical group, "Weather Underground," Wilder and Dustin Green are forced into hiding for ten years. They have a child, a girl named Ally. Ally is now a grown-up in the care of her non-biological parents. She finally learns about her real parents' past and wants answers to what really happened to them and why they made the choices they did. She embarks on this journey, along with a good friend, Terry Eckhart, a detective who is currently working on a murder case and is willing to help her on her quest. They find decades-old clues, mysteries, hints about hidden investments, and threats from people who want to keep the past covered up.

This is a truly great read that explores themes of family betrayal, love, the weight of the past, and the search for justice. One of the things that stood out to me was the slow-burning tension and suspense I felt despite the book not being fast-paced. The way the author unveiled the mysteries bit by bit kept me eager to know what mysteries were about to unfold. The character development was done well, and the conversations among them were really interesting. I loved how Bob Dylan’s music was used as a great clue throughout, and the killer's use of a suspected pattern in his killings made me appreciate the author's storytelling prowess. I recommend Shelter From The Storm: Terry Eckhart Series Book 2 by T.J. Medeiros to readers who enjoy crime stories with family drama, history, and investigations.

TJ Medeiros' Shelter From the Storm is a murder mystery that follows Detective Terry Eckhart, his love interest, Assistant DA Ally Wilder, and Terry's co-worker, Nick Fowler. Fifty years ago, in the late 1970s, a couple from the political radical group The Weather Underground organized a theft that killed two guards and a local police officer. Millions were stolen, and the pair disappeared for several years before being apprehended and imprisoned. Their baby girl, Ally, was adopted by friends while they were in prison. Fifty years later, Ally receives a cigar box containing unconnected objects that could be linked to the fortune her biological parents stole. As unexpected events unfold and Ally's life is threatened, Terry races against time to unravel a complex web of crime using only cryptic clues and photos from the 1970s box. Meanwhile, an elusive enemy intensifies the deadly game.

Shelter From the Storm by TJ Madeiros is a well-crafted and captivating suspense thriller that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The action is vividly and accurately depicted in this compelling story, which seamlessly blends murder, cunning detective work, heart-pounding excitement, and enigmatic hints hidden in the cigar box to keep the reader intrigued. The protagonist is likable as a no-nonsense cop who is committed and motivated. Throughout the storyline, you never know who is a suspect or an ally, and tension builds with each twist. Suspense, intrigue, and murder are all explored. A fast-paced and engaging plot, coupled with good character development and surprises, makes this book impossible to put down. Fans of fascinating police procedures and hard-boiled detective stories will be delighted.
