What if the greatest treasure wasn’t silver or gold, but the courage to start over? Silver’s Redemption by Patty Wiseman is a romance set in a dusty town in West Texas. Readers are introduced to middle-aged Georgiana ‘Silver’ Fellowes, who has escaped to her father’s abandoned property after losing her job and her self-worth, only to be drawn into local mysteries and unexpected friendships. Along with her companion, a mule named Joey, she searches for answers about her land, befriends a hotel owner with their own secrets, tries to figure out a sheriff whose loyalties are unclear, and wonders about a newcomer whose quiet strength and attention challenge her resolve. While searching for the truth, Silver’s understanding of trust, love, and what it means to build a new life is put to the test. In the end, can she regain the confidence she once had, and will she choose whether the possibilities for her future are worth the trouble?
I was first drawn to Silver’s Redemption by Patty Wiseman because the description highlighted how the main character, Silver, was a middle-aged female lead. While I’m not quite the same age as the character, I could still relate to her on so many levels. Her doubts seemed genuine and rooted in her past experiences. I think any woman could relate to her lack of confidence due to the events that caused her to flee to her father’s cabin in the first place. I appreciate how her love interest describes her hair as, “It’s very pretty, more like silver. Stunning actually. With your green eyes and tanned skin, you look like a movie star.” I thought that while it described her looks, it was also written in a way to show readers how much he was actually seeing her, even the parts that may make her feel less than beautiful. I liked the suspense, which isn’t always present in this type of story. Not everyone is who they appear to be at first, which kept me on my toes, making this a true page-turner I couldn’t put down. If you’re interested in a mystery with a touch of romance, then Silver’s tale is for you.
