In Sins in Black by Dita Dow, Detective Harlie Whitlock swore she would never return to Sinister Falls unless her mother needed her. Harlie answered Chief Nolan’s call and arrived at the grim scene, with a body lying near the abandoned power station. The victim, strangled and carrying no identification, is just the beginning. At the scene, Harlie feels the weight of Sinister Falls’ long-buried secrets pressing down on her. As Harlie digs deeper, she uncovers a sinister web of corruption reaching the highest levels of the town’s leadership. For decades, those in power have built Sinister Falls on lies, silenced victims, and hidden truths, and they will stop at nothing to keep it that way. Now, Harlie must race against time to expose their crimes before she becomes their next victim.
Sins in Black: The Sinister Falls Series, Book 1 by Dita Dow is a gripping and intricate read. The fast-paced plot is packed with action, and several subplots are seamlessly woven together without overshadowing one another. From the very first page, the engaging writing style drew me in, and I found myself unable to turn the pages quickly enough. The constant twists and turns kept me on edge, making the book nearly impossible to put down. The characters are well-developed and believable, with Harlie standing out as a resilient, determined woman who refuses to back down until she uncovers the truth. This story has all the elements of a winner—strong characters, suspense, action, and depth. I thoroughly enjoyed it and eagerly look forward to the next installment.
