Sister Innocent is a murder mystery novel written by Patty Lesser. Annoyed at her gossiping colleagues and her claustrophobic work environment, Brown & Bishop legal assistant Rebecca Keres spends her free time with her play-group friends or complaining about workmates to her sister, Kathy. But when the authorities recover the dead body of her desk mate, Gina Marcici, under mysterious circumstances, everyone at Brown & Bishop feels the heat. Meanwhile, Rebecca meets a handsome Wall Street broker named Dave on the subway. She soon starts a burgeoning romantic relationship with him. However, the disappearance and eventual murder of another workmate point to a serial killer on the loose. When circumstances pin-point Rebecca's new boyfriend as the prime suspect, she finds herself unwittingly drawn into the investigation, facing the ire of her workmates.
Author Patty Lesser expertly builds up suspense to deliver a powerful climax that catches you out of nowhere. Sister Innocent is an absorbing read from the first page until the end, filled with thrilling moments and intrigue. The plot moves at a breakneck speed, with twists and turns along the way that you never see coming. Each turn of the page builds up the mystery, and you find yourself eagerly anticipating more to come. The characters have well-defined arcs, and every single one of them fulfills their roles to perfection. You will root for Rebecca as she finds herself trapped in situations she has no control over. I would recommend Sister Innocent to readers who enjoy well-written sleuth stories.
