Sleeping Mallows is the second book in The Water Street Chronicles by Tammera L Cooper. This is the story of two people who have their demons to fight, but when fate brings them together, they have to fight harder than ever to make it work. Captain Savanna McCormick desperately needs closure, but it appears that she cannot get it. Even though it has been some time since the disappearance of her parents, she still craves the closure that she and her K9 bring to other people. Now that she has custody of her younger brother, she has to think about him before anything else. Deputy Tim Whitaker knew that the case of the Pearse woman was going to be a tough one to crack, but he had no idea it would be the one that would make him crazy. He knows that all it takes to solve this case is one break, but seems as if he can’t get it. However, when they are brought together to work on a special assignment, they finally see hope for a future for themselves that is not as desolate. Can they work on their personal issues, solve their respective cases and find a way to be together?
The characters were amazing, and both Savanna and Tim were a pleasure to read. They both had their troubles to fight and to solve their mysteries; they did find their troubles to be a little overwhelming, but they didn’t hold back. The story itself was very satisfying; the author brought every scene to life with vivid imagery and expressive descriptions. There is nothing that I would wish for the author to change. The pace was fast, the dialogues were very revealing and the narrative was crisp. Even the cover of the novel fits perfectly with the story. The author gave me a full, wonderful reading experience that was at once entertaining and unforgettable. Regardless to say, I loved it!
