In Socks!, written by Amber Morrell and illustrated by Agus Prajogo, Lucy is a chocolate lab with many activities she likes to do, especially play with smelly socks that belong to her parents. She likes being chased by her parents too in a game when they want the sock. After they are all worn out, her Mom places the smelly sock back into the laundry basket, yet again, until the next round.
In Socks!, the illustrations by Agus Prajogo are superb and very cute. The illustrations make the book come alive, showing an ornery 4-year-old chocolate lab running from room to room, coming from the laundry basket every day. The story, written by Amber Morrell, is as adorable as it is relevant. Kids, especially in pre-school, I think, would love it. As for the action, one can just imagine a dog chasing its parents around with a smelly sock. The characters are believable, as so many people have dogs as pets, especially dogs that get into mischief. The story offers good quality fun to entertain a child.
Amber Morrell has written a delightful book for adults to share with youngsters, whether grandparents, parents, teachers, babysitters or librarians. Even kids need a stress break, especially at bedtime or a mid-day rest. The theme of Socks! is of great humor to make a child laugh. A good belly laugh is healthy, as many studies now show. I recommend this book to anyone with the responsibility of caring for kids.
