A shortage of nurses is imminent in New York based on current and projected data, which show a shortage of more than thirty-nine thousand registered nurses by 2030, according to the New York State Department of Health. Solutions to Nursing Shortage in New York by Lorda Dabresil explores some of the possible causes of these shortages, such as the COVID pandemic, which worsened issues by causing burnout and moral distress in the existing structures. Lorda also looks at how the nursing program, which requires a passing grade of C, has disadvantaged many students. The students are also not allowed to repeat a class twice. Lorda is disadvantaged by this system despite scoring 73.53 in NUR 2200 and 73.43. in NUR 2000. Its high-time solutions, like retention, are looked into for the benefit of all.
Solutions to Nursing Shortage in New York by Lorda Dabresil is wonderfully written and offers a detailed analysis and in-depth knowledge about the current educational system, which makes the book very effective in passing on the intended message. Lorda’s story is not just about nursing; it is also a story of courage and hope. I was very inspired by her persistence and determination despite all the challenges she faced as an immigrant. Another thing that becomes apparent in the book is how minorities continue to face discrimination despite the advances that have been made in addressing discrimination. The reader will appreciate the thought-provoking nature of this work on nursing and the delivery of healthcare. I look forward to reading something else by Lorda.
