CeCe was living in a reality that only seemed to exist in television and books: the apocalyptic aftermath of the undead taking over the world and with it, a cure that would save both the undead and the living. For Cece, it didn’t seem that long ago when she was out with friends celebrating her eighteenth birthday, and then, in the blink of an eye, it has been two years since she had been bitten and her dad was crying over her battered but no longer zombified body. Everything felt surreal, and it was hard to see her home, once filled with happy memories, destroyed and barely recognizable. Despite her dad’s efforts to make things seem normal, everything felt like a warped version of the reality she once lived in. Will Cece find her place in this shattered version of reality? And, more impossibly, will she find an unexpected connection with someone she least expected? Read Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead by HJ Ramsay to find out more!

Love and Other Cures For the Recently Undead captivated me from start to finish with its gripping plot and intricate characters. Cece felt understandably off-kilter after being brought back to a post-apocalyptic reality where the people she loved were either dead or missing. She felt numb, and, to me, it seemed like she was viewing the world through a thick veil, unable to deal with everything that had happened so far. Cece’s internal grief and sorrow resonated with me, and I could visualize the story like it was a high-quality movie playing in my head. Every character I encountered was as richly crafted and deeply fleshed out as the main character. The characters and exciting plot captivated me right to the very end, and it was hard to put the book down! I find it even more impressive that despite everything that has happened with the undead, a sweet romance blossomed along the way, like a flower growing through concrete. HJ Ramsay's storytelling was evocative and masterful, and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. Remarkable.

Love & Other Cures For the Recently Undead by H.J. Ramsay follows CeCe, who wakes up after two years in stasis from being infected with the Kill Virus (CC-L). While CeCe recovers physically, she plunges emotionally, dealing with the loss of her mother to the virus and the disappearance of her brother, Teddy. As CeCe attempts to reintegrate into society, she uncovers more about her father’s work with the virus cure. She cautiously befriends Derrick, the guy who actually bit her and turned her into an Infected, and a friendship grows despite CeCe’s anger. Her father reveals they are studying a girl named P73-7, who is immune and could be the key to curing others. As CeCe processes her trauma, she must reconcile her guilt and anger, her family’s fractured state, her dad's relationship with another woman, and find out what happened to Teddy.

Love & Other Cures For the Recently Undead by H.J. Ramsay is a unique twist on the zombie-esque genre. The story is really thoughtful in how it pulls together the post-apocalyptic survival of a town with the complications of the human relationships it impacts. I love that there's a mystery to it, and Ramsay's writing stands out for its strategically parceled-out descriptions and incredible character development. Ramsay marries it all together by juxtaposing moments of quiet joy, like the visit to the music shop, with outright terror, and a heavy lean into the ethical boundaries of what is justified in the pursuit of cures. I appreciate that CeCe's warming to Derrick is never a full thaw, and, next to her father, Ramsay puts CeCe in a place where she is surrounded by men during a terrifying coming of age when she desperately needs her mother. Overall, this is a wonderful, powerful novel of one young woman's search for hope in a world that seems irreparably broken.

Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead by HJ Ramsay tells the captivating story of CeCe, a teenage girl recently cured after living as a zombie for two years. Due to the outbreak of the kill virus two years earlier, many people were bitten by infected hosts, resulting in the spread of the disease. CeCe herself was bitten by a random man and succumbed to the virus. Fortunately, her father was able to synthesize a cure, offering hope to those afflicted with the virus. Nonetheless, CeCe's life is changed forever. Things will never be the same, despite her father hoping it will be. Most of her loved ones are either dead or missing—and her home life has been significantly modified along with it. When she eventually meets the man who bit her, CeCe begins to develop feelings for him. Can their blossoming love thrive despite their painful past?

Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead is a compelling zombie romance tale that evolves in a mesmerizing post-apocalyptic setting. HJ Ramsay renders a realistic and haunting portrait of a world and its people trying their hardest to achieve a state of normalcy amidst traumatic transitioning during and after a viral zombie outbreak. The trauma experienced by the infected and non-infected alike is equally fascinating and moving to observe. I relished the undeniable (yet nuanced) connection developing between CeCe and Derrick, the man who bit and infected her with the kill virus. Their reunion and pulsating interaction add an intriguingly unpredictable twist to their shared journey in a world that is gradually trying to rebuild while some groups are growing increasingly hostile toward the recently cured undead. CeCe and Derrick's love-hate dynamic makes their relationship both heartfelt and profound. If you love zombie or post-apocalyptic novels with themes like grief, survival, and new beginnings, this book will meet all your expectations.

HJ Ramsay's Love and Other Cures For the Recently Undead unfolds around CeCe, a remarkable teen. Two years ago, CeCe was bitten by a man on her birthday and contracted the Kill Virus that changed her into a zombie. Her father, Dr. Campbell, created a cure that transforms infected persons into their human selves. After successfully undergoing treatment for the Kill Virus, CeCe tries her hardest to re-adjust to her regular life. She soon realizes that her old life has been altered beyond its prior existence. Her friends and brother are missing, her mother is dead, and her father has a new girlfriend. She wrestles with guilt and emotional pain while attempting to navigate daily life. CeCe unexpectedly bumps into Derrick, the man who bit her. Their encounter gives rise to conflicting feelings for her—mainly anger and romantic attraction. This story marks their highly unusual and engaging journey in the world of the living.

Love and Other Cures For the Recently Undead is not your standard zombie story. It is a heart-pounding, action-filled, fast-paced book that will hook you from the beginning and reel you in for the duration. HJ Ramsay's writing is evocative, raw, and intense—drawing readers into the plot while charming them with well-defined characters and their realistic responses to the situations unfolding around them. This tale intertwines a passionate love story with themes of trauma, new beginnings, and identity. CeCe and Derrick's journey is filled with engaging dialogue, complex relationship dynamics, and emotional exchanges, making their story an immersive and exciting one to follow. The author does not disappoint! She weaves a captivating narrative balanced with romantic and paranormal elements. This book kept me up past my bedtime two nights in a row. So, I assure you, it's absolutely worth the read—and the loss of sleep. I recommend it to readers who enjoy urban fantasy stories merged with paranormal romance.

In Love & Other Cures for the Recently Undead by HJ Ramsay, CeCe had been celebrating her eighteenth birthday when she encountered one of the people infected with the Kill Virus. After she is bitten, it takes her two years to recover, and by then, the virus has had devastating effects on humanity. CeCe has lost her mother, brother, and most of her friends, but luckily, her father, who had been a veterinarian, had been able to come up with a cure. Adjusting to the new realities of life is not easy, and people are putting in efforts, but some groups, like the Revies, are not very eager to see the virus eradicated. Who are they, and what do they believe in? How will things turn out when CeCe meets the person who infected her?

Love & Other Cures for the Recently Undead by HJ Ramsay takes the reader on a gripping journey filled with twists and turns that keep one looking forward to the events of subsequent chapters. The moral dilemmas also got me thinking about issues such as ethics in scientific research and other social issues. The characters were well-developed, and Ramsay also ensured all the events and emotions were vividly described, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening. The plot flowed seamlessly, ensuring no room for confusion and the reader will also appreciate the easy-to-understand language that makes the work accessible to all kinds of audiences. This was a good read, and I look forward to reading something else by Ramsay.
