Dating a rock musician has its drawbacks, and former model Jesse swore she wouldn’t let her heart be broken by another one. But when she meets Robbie, the lead singer of the band Punch Drunk, her heart sings a different tune. Jesse finds herself having mixed emotions as her attraction deepens, but her former relationship haunts her, so she is reluctant to get serious with anyone. Robbie’s quiet, laid-back personality is comforting to Jesse, but she still has doubts, especially after seeing him with another woman. Her carefree housemate, Stephanie, has no reservations about dating James, a guitarist in the band, and likes the glitzy lifestyle. James is smart, quotes Shakespeare and is passionate. She wants Jesse to be happy, and tries to help her overcome her insecurities, but is Robbie the right man for her best friend? Songs in the Key of J is written by Helen McNicol.

If you enjoy romantic novellas, then Songs in the Key of J is a story that you will take pleasure in reading. It is easy to bond with Jesse as her attitude towards relationships are displayed in an unforced manner. Helen McNicol wrote an entertaining book that gave an insider’s view into the celebrity world, showing the pros and cons of dating someone famous. I liked the interesting characters and found this short story nicely developed. Songs in the Key of J also contains the right degree of heated passion that will hold your attention, as the content was not overly explicit.
