Soulstealer: Steven is a work of fiction in the urban fantasy, action-adventure, and supernatural thriller subgenres. It is best suited to mature young adult readers and the adult reading audience owing to scenes of various kinds of violence and some use of explicit language and sexual references. The work was penned by author Shane Boulware and is narrated in audiobook form by Daniel Wisniewski and Rebecca Woods. In this second work in the series, we see the events of the first novel replayed and enhanced by the perspective of Steven, who is hunting down the Soulstealer and trying to put an end to its carnage despite the demonic cults determined to help its cause.
In terms of storytelling and structure, author Shane Boulware does a great job of offering an action-packed tale that never pulls its punches where the dark, gritty underbelly of urban fantasy is concerned. When Boulware creates dangerous demons, they leap into life with fully immersive, multi-sensory sensations on the page. Tensions are high in Soulstealer from cover to cover as the demons look and feel as real to us as they are to Steven.
In terms of its audiobook presentation, the dual narrative talents of Daniel Wisniewski and Rebecca Woods have much to offer this fast-paced drama. Wisniewski, in particular, delivers a superb pace in the narrative and a wide variety of voices that offers richness, suspense, and excitement. The audio was also very cleanly cut and edited to keep the pace snappy. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Soulstealer: Steven to fans of the existing series as a must-read to continue the adventure.
