Southwestern Adventure: In the Footsteps of First Peoples: Mogollon, Hohokam, Salado and Sinagua is illustrated by the author Michael Royea and is part history, part travel guide. Recommended sites include Salinas Pueblo and Quarai Mission Ruins. The next attractions are the Three Rivers Petroglyph site and the Valley of Fires. Other recommended highlights include the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum, NAN Ranch Ruin, Rockhound State Park, and Gila River Cliff Dwellings. After Silver City, Dankworth Village and Besh-Ba-Gowah Park are worth a look. Then the Tonto National Monument and Casa Grande are endorsed. Visit Pueblo Grande, the Heard Museum, and Mesa Grande, before moving on to Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve and Montezuma Castle. View astrological calendars and marvel at Verde Valley ruins. Don’t miss Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monument. Walnut Canyon and Elden Pueblo form attractions on the way to the Grand Canyon and Tusayan Ruins. Southwestern Adventure by Michael Royea contains masses of handy information including the best roads to travel, accommodation options, and opening hours. I like the way the book commences with a handy map and itinerary. Mesmerizing accounts of violent history accompany location descriptions, adding action and suspense. The exciting explanations made me feel as though I was at each place. Moreover, I loved the way each detailed travelogue was accompanied by high-quality original photographs. These amazing images transported me through time and space, so I felt I was visiting the site. I am not often blown away by a travelogue, but this journey truly lived up to its name and delivered a reading adventure!
