Historian Nora Zvezda never thought her world would turn upside down and inside out but it did. Spears and Shadows by S. C. Grayson follows Nora, a young and intelligent historian who is looking forward to some incoming artifacts from Greece. Little does she know that the sword and spear that were excavated will hurl her into another world where she will have to help conquer the shadows. Alongside the handsome professor Adam Scott, Nora now finds herself in the middle of the Defenders of the Light war.

I found Spears and Shadows by S. C. Grayson to be interesting from the moment I read the synopsis. As someone who loves female characters that can hold their own, be it in strength or intelligence, the notion of a historian as the female lead piqued my interest. Once I started reading, I found myself even more intrigued by the world and characters created by Grayson. The story was well-written and quite fast-paced with a good few twists along the way. Adam easily became one of my favorite characters and I will admit this man won my heart. His sweet demeanor coupled with a slight air of mystery definitely had me riveted throughout. In the end, all the mysteries were slowly uncovered in well-placed flashback scenes which helped me not only learn more about the characters but the overall situation in Eteria. The incorporation of Greek mythology was also really well done and it shows how much effort and research the author has put into the book. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
