Spencer’s mother is a professor of geology, and his father is a pilot. Twelve-year-old Spencer and his sister, Liz Lou, are on an adventure. The weather in Seattle is unusual. Spencer and the Lake Union Adventurers are attempting to stop the destruction of Seattle at the hands of a Romanian Count. The adventurers face many trials in their quest to save the city and Spencer’s family.

I LOVE IT! I gave a copy of this book to one of my granddaughters, a second grader and an avid reader. She did not want to lay it down. I highly support books of this caliber. I want to see children read. Spencer the Adventurer and the Emerald City is an excellent read for 9-12 year-olds. Stephen S. Keeney is a brilliant author capable of entertaining and informing at the same time. Keeney shares diversity in culture and a bit of a history and geography. I hope this book makes its way into school libraries.

Spencer the Adventurer is a fabulous book. Kenney combines entertaining adventure with vivid characters and place descriptions. In addition, he weaves themes of diversity, culture and travel into the action-packed plot. This book is excellent for elementary school classrooms and summer reading. Adults will enjoy it as well.
