Are you ready to be immersed in a tale filled with magic, adventure, and unusual creatures? If you said "yes," then Spindleheart: Trail of Shadow and Spool by T.I. Avens should be the book you pick next. Wynn is a swirlear lark who is on a mission to recover a precious object that has been stolen. Wynn meets a couple of other larks who also are after the same culprit, and they band together to make the challenging journey. At the same time Calla, a flower-elf, is on a mission of her own. She is hoping to become a caster, someone who can cast magic spells. An unexpected turn of events upends her plans. Will Wynn and Calla be successful?

T. I. Avens has created a fully realized world in Spindleheart: Trail of Shadow and Spool. Her descriptions of each of the larks and wilders bring them vividly to life. Some of the wilders are indeed wild, but there are some delightful pet wilders that belong to Calla. Even though they are twigtrots, their antics will be familiar to anyone with pets. The plot twists and turns kept me eagerly turning the pages as more and more secrets and history were revealed. T. I. Avens has created a cast of interesting characters with clever and intriguing backstories. The cover artwork is beautiful. Kids will be able to fire up their imaginations as they devour this exciting tale filled with daring deeds. They will anxiously await the next book in this series. Fans of the Warriors and Redwall will love Spindleheart.
