After more than ten years working with broken families, Jan Kaa Kristensen has shared ways to survive a divorce in Splitting Up Without Falling To Pieces. A family break-up can be compared to a living death. Part of the relationship is gone forever, but part lives on in having to co-parent the children. Children are very resilient, but their best chance to survive and thrive is when they have loving parents who have learned how to work together for the children's sake. This book is full of skills that any couple can use to improve their ability to co-parent. Jan is a psychologist in Denmark. People are people no matter where they live, and this truism is seen in this book because the things that work in Denmark also work in the United States. I have worked with broken families as a counselor for over 40 years, and I can heartily recommend this book and its methods.

Jan Kaa Kristensen is a certified clinical psychologist and has managed to bring the tangled web of emotions and actions involved in divorce into simple language. The book covers many technical topics without going into technical jargon. The stories that illustrate the major points are enlightening. The skills taught are essential for working together for the sake of the children. Splitting Up Without Falling To Pieces shares coping and growing skills with parents. The book also helps the new co-parents better understand the issues that other parents face. Most importantly, Jan focuses on how the children feel and how the parents can help the children work through to a successful conclusion in a new normal. Things will never be the same, but a new normal is within reach for all children. This book is designed to instill hope in all who are divorced.
