Bennett is a powerful love story, a sizzling romance that is character-driven and that will keep the reader’s eyes riveted on the pages. “I wish Mark’s friend Greg would stop staring at me. It’s not that I don’t like him – quite the opposite actually.” Such are the thoughts of Maura, the shy and beautiful girl whose heart throbs for Mark’s friend, Greg. While Greg could be laid-back and outgoing, Maura keeps to herself, but that doesn’t hinder the connection between them in any way. The only thing that could destroy what is growing between them is Maura’s dark secret. Can she keep her secret from the man she is dying to have?
Ellen K. Bennett is a mistress of the romance game, and I enjoyed the fact that there are no clichés and no cheesy writing. She writes with simplicity and moving limpidity, a clear style of writing that succinctly captures the emotions of the characters and literally plunges the reader into the heart of the drama. The story is told in the first person narrative and in alternating points of view. The present tense is masterfully handled and it renders the action so vivid and compelling that the reader feels like everything is happening before their eyes. The pace is steady and somewhat suspenseful. The anxiety that Maura exhibits encourages the reader to keep on reading with the desire to know what happens when Greg discovers who she really is. Still Waters: What Lies Beneath will Change You Forever combines romance with suspense to give readers an amazing reading experience. Your heart will beat to the rhythm of the characters.
