When a young woman arrives at her great-grandmother’s manor, a ghostly presence begins to intercede in her life in Stonebridge, written by Linda Griffin and narrated by Catherine Hein Carter. After her mother dies, Rynna goes to stay with her great-grandmother at Stonebridge, her mother’s childhood home. There she meets her two cousins, Ted and Jason, and an ethereal presence, Rosalind, Jason’s mother. Ted is curt and irritable, while Jason is charismatic and charming, and Rosalind’s disembodied spirit is unobtrusive. Caught in the middle of a silent argument between Ted and Jason, Rynna struggles to stay neutral. Compelled by Jason’s good looks and appeal, Rynna soon falls in love with him despite Ted’s and Rosalind’s warnings. What is Jason hiding? How will his secrets affect their relationship?

Stonebridge by Linda Griffin is a fascinating romance novel that includes a love triangle and a hint of the supernatural. The backdrop has a gothic feel that gives the story an eerie atmosphere. The timeline was a little confusing at first, and I had to keep reminding myself that the story takes place in the mid-twentieth century. It is an intriguing tale that those readers who love gothic mysteries will enjoy. However, I might add that it may hold emotional triggers as the storyline includes domestic abuse and rape.

Catherine Hein Carter is a superb narrator. Having narrated numerous books, including Clumsy in Love, Miracle at the Mall, and Emotional Intelligence, Ms. Carter demonstrates flexibility and professionalism in her work. She is one of the best narrators I have heard in a very long time. The characters’ voices were well-defined and believable. They matched their personalities perfectly.
