Author Biography

Award-winning author GP Hutchinson is a high school teacher who devotes as much time as possible to the craft of writing. He is a member of Western Writers of America. Hutchinson's passion for Westerns started when he was sixteen years old, when he wrote a research paper titled "The Cowboy in American Literature." His influences include artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell, as well as Western authors Elmore Leonard, Elmer Kelton, and Robert B. Parker. It is his goal to blend the terse style of the modern thriller with many of the conventions of the classic Western to create stories that capture the hearts and imaginations of today's readers. Hutchinson, a father of three and grandfather of eight, lives in the upstate of South Carolina with his wife, Carolyn. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and Dallas Theological Seminary who has also lived and studied in Costa Rica and Spain.

For readers who are into Westerns, G.P. Hutchinson’s Strong Convictions will come along as a great and entertaining treat, a compelling opening to the Emmett Strong Westerns series, featuring well-imagined characters and an equally great plot. Set against the backdrop of an emerging Texas in the late nineteenth century, the story features Emmett Strong who after being visited by misfortune — first the accidental murder of his wife and the murder of his brother — decides to seek the killer out. But there is more than a twist in the story when he falls in love with a Chinese girl who soon gets kidnapped with other victims. Torn between avenging his brother’s death and looking for the woman who has stolen his heart, Emmett has to make painful and quick decisions.

Readers are in for a great ride. There is a lot to love in this story. First, it begins with a bang. The opening is dramatic, intense, and immediately introduces one of the major conflicts in the story. It’s a huge promise, but the fulfillment of that promise is executed with skill and elegance. Second, the characters are extraordinarily sculpted and readers will surely love to follow the lead character, Emmett, very closely. Third, G.P. Hutchinson displays a great gift for plot and weaves his story in a way that keeps readers utterly captivated. It’s a page-turner, a fast-paced story that will undoubtedly put readers on the edge of their seats. Lastly, the prose is excellent and I enjoyed the plot-driven dialogues and the wonderful sense of humor that punctuates the work. Strong Convictions is a great read, fast-paced with great characters and a strong storyline.
