Michelle Martin thinks something bad has happened to her friend Katie Brashers. Katie had borrowed a book from Michelle and never returned it. Everyone was told that Katie and her family had gone on vacation. Michelle was not so sure, so she enlisted the help of her friend Tami and Katie's boyfriend Brad. Together they all started asking questions and pooling their information to try and find out where Katie is. They get into the house where she lived, questioned a neighbor, and listened at school to see what they could find out. In the process they came across a dead body in the backyard of the house where Katie and her family lived. Michelle's parents were not happy that she could not leave well enough alone. But Michelle knew if her mother ever found out that she lent her grandmother's book to Katie, she was in big trouble. That gave her an added incentive to solve the mystery.

This is a very fast, easy read and quite a good story. Michelle and her friends showed a lot of initiative to go out and try to find Katie. Some of the stuff they got into could have been serious trouble for them. Michelle was a great lead character; she is inquisitive and charming. Tami was more brash and confident in what she wanted and did. Brad was concerned and eager to learn what happened to his girlfriend.

The book flowed from beginning to end. There was just something about the story that kept the reader's interest. The writer wrote a tale that had just about everything you could want in a book. There was mystery, murder and a little romance thrown in. The cover is nicely done and hints at what lies inside. Well done! Overall a nice book for young readers.
