Hi there! My name is Hyeunjoo Chung, and I'm the author of Suits and Sins. I’m a Korean-American living in California, and in my free time, I play various musical instruments.
Suits and Sins is a cyberpunk dystopian novel I was inspired to write by both current events and the classic cyberpunk media of the 80s and 90s. In recent years I've witnessed a sort of cyberpunk renaissance as these new works are expanded upon and have come back into the modern 'fashion', so to speak; and as a fan of cyberpunk myself, I figured that I would throw my hat into the fray.
Coming off of this classic background, I wanted to stay true to storied cyberpunk elements, but also introduce and subvert new ideas; I wanted to have a strong female protagonist rather than a male one, parody trickle-down economics, and explore the more emotional and social aspects of what life in a dystopia would be like. At the same time, I wanted to talk about classic issues like the sentience of artificial intelligence and unchecked corporate influence, while also playing into classic tropes such as gigantic megacities.
All of this culminated in a work that attempts to genuinely explore what life in a dystopian hyper-capitalist society would really be like. I sincerely hope you enjoy my little foray into a possible future, and I hope even more sincerely that it will never come to fruition.

Suits and Sins is a work of fiction in the dystopian, thriller, and cyberpunk sci-fi subgenres. Penned by author Hyeunjoo Chung, it is best suited to mature adult readers owing to scenes of graphic violence and the use of explicit language throughout. In this chilling exploration of a dark and dreary future for humanity, we find ourselves immersed in a world where the Slums hang low beneath a prosperous city, and anyone who falls from grace falls hard. When Cameron Jones loses her job and finds herself evicted, rising back up to the megacity above seems an impossible and helpless journey.
Author Hyeunjoo Chung offers a sharp and ruthless perspective on capitalism, classism, and modern culture in this thrilling novel. Though the epic nature of the piece is not for the faint-hearted, the more I read, the more consumed I became by the sinister workings of the Metro and the harsh dystopian world that Chung has brought to life. The narrative is unique in its approach, with a dry, biting wit and sharp atmospheric depictions of the world wherein our poor protagonist Cameron finds herself. Despite this, the novel never goes soft on our central heroic figure, and the crueler the world gets around her, the more respect I had for Cameron’s persistence and endurance in a truly broken society. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Suits and Sins for dystopian fans looking for a fascinating cyberpunk work that encompasses both a socio-political and very personal style of storytelling.
