The Charlemagne team takes on a new assignment and this time it is very personal. An old adversary has stepped up the ante when he sets his sights on an asset of significant value to the team. The assignment is simple enough; infiltrate the area ahead of Viktor Borodinov and his Vory crew, secure the asset, and take out any hostile elements deemed expendable. This shouldn't be a tough task but with tensions rising among team members, anything is possible. Once the ambitious Captain Claire Nolan is added to this mix, it is only a matter of time before tempers flare and bullets fly in Swallow by K.A. Bachus.
You are immediately thrown into the world of espionage from the start with the rather harsh and sometimes overtly sexist conversations between the characters. It gives the novel a military background authenticity which is the case in real-world covert operations. The storyline is quite simple to follow but what it lacks in terms of variety is made up for with the oddly humorous banter. The attention to detail is remarkable with the descriptions of the weapons on display being quite graphic, combined with breathtaking fight sequences and bone-crunching accidents to sate the thirst of an avid action junkie like me. If anything caught my attention, you can be certain snakes flying through trees were at the top of that list. Swallow promises action and duly delivers on it in style. K.A. Bachus deserves kudos for this enterprising novel.
