Sweet Indulgence by Jill Blake is a contemporary romance. Like many women, Becca Markham has spent years putting everyone else ahead of her own interests. When she discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, she decides enough is enough. She leaves him, quits her very stressful job, and decides to do something for herself for a change. She has always had a love for baking and decides now is the best time to change that passion into her business. Leo is a well-respected surgeon who escaped a poor upbringing and is looking for the perfect wife to complete his picture perfect life. He and Becca are definitely attracted to one another, but they disagree on a number of important issues. Leo wants marriage and commitment. Becca just got out of a bad relationship and wants the pleasure without the messy strings. She’s opening a new business and flying by the seat of her pants, but Leo is more stable and structured. The two have many differences, but they can’t deny their chemistry. Can they put aside their differences to act on what they know feels right?
Sweet Indulgence is a very “sweet” romance about second chances and starting over. I really loved both of these main characters and found things in both that I admired and respected (and saw in myself!). Becca is a tough cookie, who has the courage to start over and pursue her passion, which was something I admired about her. I loved the way that Jill Blake wrote her as likeable, loveable, and yet a strong character that readers can respect. Leo is sexy and successful and really in love with Becca, which Blake did a good job of showing throughout the novel. Well-written and a fun, "tasty" read!
