Tainted Love is the first book in the Lovestruck series written by Lane Hart. Tired of being alone after the breakup of her cheating boyfriend, Bryan Davis, 26-year-old Josie Carter and her best friend, Reagan, find themselves being read by psychic, Madam Tess, at a fair. Sensing Josie’s loneliness and despair, Madam Tess sells a love potion to the women, guaranteeing that one sip will secure the man of their dreams, as long as they consummate their relationship within seven days. Although skeptical, Josie takes a sip of the potion, setting off a chain of events which are shocking, humorous, elating and tragic, all of which lead her into the arms of foul-mouthed mechanic and entrepreneur, Lawson Andrews, who is overwhelmed by the sudden inexplicable desire he feels for Josie. Feeling protective, obsessed and an insatiable lust for a woman he had just met, Lawson is grateful to have found her, as Josie makes his life complete in a world which had seemed to be against him. Unfortunately for Lawson and Josie, unexpected obstacles arise every time they try to make love. When Bryan Davis walks back into her life as the seven day deadline looms, Josie needs to make a decision which could shatter more lives than just her own.
Lane Hart’s novella about a woman creating a false love in order to better her life was entertaining, fun and kept me hooked on every single page, while leaving me in suspense until the very end. Fast paced, Tainted Love shows the dynamics of the different types of relationships, both good and bad, which people often accept unconditionally. Although shocked, I was also not completely surprised when Josie suddenly had tunnel vision the moment that Bryan Davis appeared back in her life, regardless of the pain and heartache he had caused her in the past. Love potion or not, Josie and Lawson not only had a magnetism, but also a complete respect for one another, whereas Bryan saw Josie as a doormat who would always come running back into his arms. Many lessons are learned through the interactions of the main players in this passion-filled tale. I recommend Tainted Love to fans of sizzling romance novels which are not afraid to include truck-loads of emotion on each and every page. I enjoyed Tainted Love immensely and look forward to reading more of Lane Hart’s books in the future.
