Take It to the Limit Book Two: A Dish Best Served Cold by Linda Opdyke is a taut and emotionally charged suspense thriller that pulls no punches. After a botched gala robbery in Nashville leaves multiple people dead and five million dollars unaccounted for, PI Ethan Jenks is drawn into a tangled web of lies and vengeance. With his wife Mickey by his side, Ethan must unravel a layered mystery involving embezzlement, a dangerous kidnapping, and deep-seated betrayal. Meanwhile, his brother Logan is on the run in a globe-spanning subplot involving a former protégé, stolen funds, and an international race against time. As tensions boil over and enemies close in, old wounds surface and new threats emerge.

Author Linda Opdyke has a great sense of control and confidence over her story, and she juggles multiple perspectives and timelines with impressive control, never losing the emotional core that makes it resonate. Ethan and Mickey’s relationship was a big highlight for me, with such tender and authentic dialogue providing a grounding thread in the midst of chaos. The stakes are high, but it’s the emotional throughlines of guilt, revenge, and redemption that give the story so much power and keep you thinking about it long after you've let it go. The pacing is relentless, the plot twists are sharp, and the character development continues to deepen in satisfying ways. Overall, Take It to the Limit Book Two: A Dish Best Served Cold is a gripping, layered thriller that expertly balances explosive action with raw emotional depth, and I cannot wait to see what else comes from the mind of this really engaging writer.

Take It to the Limit: A Dish Best Served Cold by Linda Opdyke is the second installment in the series. Ethan and Bowen were hired during a Christmas gala to prevent a theft while Ethan’s wife, Mickey, found herself alone on the terrace. Someone tampered with Mickey’s drink, causing her to plunge into the pool. Ethan and Mickey have no clue why she was targeted, but they later realize it was merely a diversion to steal from the host, Parker. Murder occurs, and Ethan and Bowen must determine what is happening and locate the murderer. Mickey was approached by Spencer Redmond to find $5 million and trace the financial transactions. Lacking experience in financial fraud, Mickey enlisted Ethan’s brother, Logan, who is an expert in the field. Will Ethan and Bowen be able to find the killer in time and halt the ongoing events?

Take It to the Limit: A Dish Best Served Cold by Linda Opdyke was an exhilarating journey of vengeance, betrayal, and redemption. The story unfolds at a consistent pace, and I was captivated from beginning to end. The writing was compelling, drawing me into a complex tapestry of deception and retribution. There was plenty of action to maintain my interest, and the events were vividly portrayed. The characters were well-crafted and believable. Mickey was determined and motivated to uncover the reasons behind her being drugged; she wanted closure. Several plotlines were skillfully interwoven to create this thriller, embodying all the elements necessary for reader immersion. The story was superbly written, illustrating the fine line between justice and revenge that can easily be crossed. I really enjoyed this gripping and emotionally impactful book.

Take It to the Limit: A Dish Best Served Cold by Linda Opdyke is a stunning tale of revenge. Ethan Jenks is a private investigator, and his job has taken him into an undercover role at the Nashville Christmas Gala. Robbery and spiked drinks take Ethan and Mickey, his wife, to Ethan’s hometown, on the trail of $5 million that’s been embezzled. The bodies pile up as Ethan and Mickey race to find out why their family is in the killer’s sights. At the same time, Ethan’s brother Logan is involved with an old financial fraud partner. Kidnap, murder, and revenge, the perfect combination, but who’s behind it all?

Take It to the Limit: A Dish Best Served Cold by Linda Opdyke follows the first book in the series, although I read this as a standalone. It worked, but I think readers would get a better handle on the main characters if they read book one first. The story is nonstop action from the first to the last page, and the ending will surprise you. This is one of those stories where you think you've guessed who did it, and then something else happens to throw everything into doubt. The characters are amazing, wholly likable, and easy to relate to. The plot has a unique premise, written with tight, clear dialogue that’s easy to follow, and while it is a revenge-suspense tale, it’s also a fun read. It’s the kind of story that hooks readers from the word go and gives them a real desire to find out where the story is leading. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended to anyone who loves a good suspense story.
