Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy's novel, Tall, Dark and Cherokee, is a romance full of suspense. It centers on Kaitlin, a high school English teacher who finds herself in a dangerous situation. As she prepares to marry a doctor, she realizes he's not the person she thought he was. Her dream wedding day turns into a nightmare when a shot rings out and she is whisked away by a mysterious, handsome US Marshal named Shane Raincrow of Cherokee descent. He informs her she's in protective custody and draws her into a world filled with Cherokee tradition and family bonds. They begin to grow closer. When the danger intensifies, Kaitlin must decide whether she can truly rely on Shane—not just for her safety, but also with her heart. Are they destined to be together, or is it all due to circumstance? This story blends suspense, culture, and a slow-burning romance to create a captivating tale.
Tall, Dark, and Cherokee is not your typical romance novel. Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy’s writing draws you in from the very beginning. With its fast pace, it was a quick read that I really enjoyed. There are so many twists and turns that you will not see what’s coming next. I found myself rooting for Kaitlin and Shane while also relating to them. Most girls dream of their wedding from a young age and would be devastated if it were ruined because of lies. Murphy balanced the suspense and the growing romance really well. The chemistry between Kaitlin and Shane felt natural. The details about his Cherokee heritage and family connections added heart and gave the story a little something extra. The mix of danger, culture, and passion made this a book I didn’t want to put down, and I think fans of both romance and suspense will enjoy it.
