Tequila Highway: Last Exit is a work of action and adventure fiction penned by author R. J. Matthews. In this opening novel in the Tequila Highway series, we are quickly introduced to our central protagonist Jim Seagram. Jim is a man with some army experience back in the day, but recently he has settled into a nice life with his wife, Rachel. They have the peaceful, mundane existence that many couples dream of, but then suddenly Rachel goes missing. When all hope seems lost, Jim takes a course of extreme decisions to find her, and these lead him to Mexico and to a task which is nowhere near as simple as it seems.
Author R. J. Matthews really draws readers into Jim’s story and his predicament right away. Readers who like a clean-cut tale without too much backstory can dive right into this adventure, which takes off with all the narrative confidence that the protagonist himself has. It’s fun to see Jim, who believes himself capable, being truly put to the test not just by the physical dangers that await him, but by the emotional conflict of travelling with Selma, his new charge. There is some brilliant dialogue and emotional interplay between them which really drives the story forward with yet more layers of suspense and intrigue. Overall, Tequila Highway: Last Exit is a very promising start to an interesting new series, and the novel comes highly recommended for fans of action, intrigue, high stakes drama and plenty of interpersonal trials.
