The $1,300 Alphabet by Benjamin Weilert is a well-written book that introduces children to twenty-six big vocabulary words, commonly referred to as the $50 words. Benjamin begins this book with a note to parents and a brief historical fact about the 18th President of the United States, who features on the $50 bill. Each of these words is introduced on a colorful page. The author also includes the definition of each word, along with the parts of speech they belong to in English grammar, such as nouns, verbs, and more. This book also contains illustrations, common names, and scientific names of some avian species, which children will find fascinating.
I was very pleased with the idea behind this book. Despite it being a children's book, the unique presentation of everything in it greatly benefited me as an adult. Some of the words introduced were new to me, and I am glad I learned them. I loved the colorful pages and beautiful illustrations by Nancy Anderson, as they make this book more visually appealing to children. The $50 bill hidden in the illustration was quite a lovely activity, which made the contents more engaging for kids. The avian section appealed to me, and I had to study further on some of the birds. The writing is simple, clear, well-organized, and easy to comprehend. I enjoyed reading this book, and I found it to be both entertaining and educational. I recommend The $1,300 Alphabet by Benjamin Weilert to all young readers and bird lovers.
