Author Biography

Phillip Mauldin is a fantasy author whose love for adventure began with a lifelong passion for gaming, epic storytelling, and the rich history of ancient and medieval worlds. Inspired by tales of exploration, conflict, and the bonds formed in the face of hardship, his writing blends sweeping adventure with deeply emotional, character-driven journeys.
Phillip first discovered his love for storytelling in high school, where an early novel inspired by a favorite game was warmly received by friends and family. What began as a creative outlet soon grew into a lasting passion, and by 2011 he committed himself to writing seriously. His debut fantasy novel, originally completed in 2014, faced years of challenges before finally being revived and brought to life—a testament to perseverance, belief in the story, and the encouragement of those closest to him.
Themes of survival, loyalty, betrayal, romance, and the strength found in friendship and family run throughout Phillip's work. Known for emotional character arcs, unexpected twists, and gripping cliffhangers, he strives to create stories that immerse readers in both adventure and heartfelt moments.
When he isn't writing, he enjoys spending time with his family, camping in the woods, hunting, gaming across platforms, building computers, fixing vehicles, and losing himself in a good book.
His fantasy saga continues with A Dangerous Game, the second installment in the series, while a third novel is currently in development as he continues expanding the world and the journeys of its characters.

The Siege of Mauldonion follows Kevin Dobbs, a seventeen year old travelling bard whose visit to the Mauldonion Province becomes part of a war for the kingdom’s survival. After Velmordian soldiers cross the border, Kevin joins Phill, the province’s Master Ranger, in warning King Gene that an invasion is coming. Evidence soon suggests that the attack is being aided from inside Mauldonion by someone with knowledge of its defences. As enemy forces advance toward the capital of Maulart, Kevin is drawn from performing in taverns into the defence of a kingdom he barely knows. With the invading army closing in and an unknown traitor working against Mauldonion from within, Kevin must help Phill protect the province before the capital falls into enemy hands during war.

Phillip Mauldin’s The Adventures of Kevin Dobbs is an inventive military high fantasy, and I had a lot of fun peering into the world-building. Maulart comes alive with visual prose, from granite walls that magically repair damage to a forest wizard's hut that opens into an enchanted mansion. The magic has satisfyingly defined rules, demonstrated by those like Master Ranger Phill, teaching that ancient spells aren't just words; they require the user’s will. Nathaniel, Phill’s mage brother, brings the intriguing possibility that power may be strengthened by channeling dead mages. The battles are top-notch, with ballista bolts smashing into trolls, and battery mages intercepting flaming siege fire from above. Overall, this is a first-rate fantasy for readers fond of spellcraft in siege warfare. Very highly recommended.
