The Alpha’s Anchor by Riordan Yun revolves around Alpha Herja Falkenberg’s urgent need to stabilize her lethal, solar-linked power, which is spiraling toward fatal burnout. The only way to prevent her death is through the presence of Brand Hartmann, a captured Moon-Wolf who acts as an “anchor,” absorbing her excessive energy. This dependency becomes her driving force: Herja must summon and rely on Brand repeatedly, even as her own council member Grimhild Stahl distrusts him and plots to manipulate or poison him. Meanwhile, Alberich Faust, the enemy warlord, identifies Brand as Herja’s critical weakness and orchestrates an operation to seize him. The escalation is exponential as Brand is captured, Herja’s powers destabilize catastrophically, and she must embark on a perilous mission to retrieve him before her unchecked solar energy destroys her and leaves her pack defenseless.

It's a leash.” The Alpha’s Anchor by Riordan Yun is a really unique and bold tale of leadership, determination, and the literal power of lust, packaged in an excellent story with two supremely likable main characters. Herja and Brand sizzle, and I love that Yun stays balanced on the slippery slope of allowing the female alpha, Herja, to retain a degree of choice and agency while still harnessing her fate, and the fates of others, to Brand. The world-building is excellent, and we are taken through everything from enemy camps and fortresses to an entry into the wilderness at a critical juncture. Yun's brand of the paranormal combines generous supernatural forces, tactical maneuvers, and calculated risk. With laser-sharp writing and a fast pace, fans of werewolf fantasy and dark romance will find themselves fully absorbed in Herja and Brand's world. Very highly recommended.
