The Badass Widows by Valerie Saul is an excellent book. The widows are not your typical mature women. One fixes boat engines. Another is a tech guru. The main character, Beth, is a retired FBI agent, which puts her in a formidable league of her own. Some people call them vigilantes; to others, they are heroes. Each woman has her own story; some are heart-warming, and others are heartbreaking. The beautiful part is how they come together and the friendships and bonds that form. Insecurities gradually fade as they find acceptance with the past and the freedom that letting go brings. But the two widows are in danger. Will the main character solve the mystery behind the kidnapping syndicate? Or will events turn from fearful to fatal?

The Badass Widows by Valerie Saul is a book-lover's treat. The story comes togetherwell, and the mystery in the background grows until an exciting climax. I was instantly drawn to Beth and felt curiosity about her sorrow and pent-up frustration. The prologue, which showed Beth’s thoughts at her husband’s funeral, was exceptionally well written. It succinctly summed up her character and the rage within. The supporting characters had much to offer with their skill sets and personalities. Their presence and the subplots all contributed to Beth's shift in state of mind, from one of anger and resentment to one of forgiveness and newfound freedom. A simple example is how the romantic side of the widows’ lives creeps slowly and unobtrusively into the story. Overall, this is a fantastic book.
