The Betrayal is the first novel in the Blue Lotus Project by Doug Dorsey. The world has survived devastating events, and almost all countries are now under the control of Sovereign Alexander Wraith in an attempt to achieve global peace. Some of the best scientists have created a machine called Blue Lotus that will help in restoring order to the world. However, there is one particular group that understands what is happening. A Christian resistance group led by Liam Adler and Jessica Cyprus knows what Wraith is planning and what he hopes to achieve. They will fight for the freedom of their group and to save humanity from the clutches of evil that Wraith has planned. However, they are not prepared for the weapons that Wraith has, and the Blue Lotus is just the tip of the iceberg.

Usually, the amalgamation of science fiction with fantasy does not work for me, but The Betrayal does. Author Doug Dorsey writes a compelling tale with phenomenal worldbuilding and convincing characters. There isn't a moment in the novel where you are confused or don’t understand what is happening. Once you start reading, you will be consumed by the story and will not stop until you have finished it. Jessica and Liam make a great team. They are the kind of leaders with whom people feel a connection. They work well as a team and respect each other. This wasn’t a hero/sidekick duo, it was a team effort, and Doug Dorsey made sure of that the moment these two characters were introduced. You cannot help but dislike Wraith. I loved to hate him, but I still admire the effort that went into creating a character like this. The technology behind the Blue Lotus amazed me, and halfway through the story, I understood the significance of the name. Kudos to the author for a job well done!
