The Boy and His Pets by Tamara Popa is the delightful story of a cute little boy who wants to have a dog as his friend. He lives in an apartment which makes it inconvenient to keep a pet, so first he asks his kindergarten teacher to given him a chicken from the school incubator. So the chicken is his first pet and he is happy. The chicken becomes a part of his life and routine. When he goes on a vacation, his treasured pet is taken away by a law enforcement officer. Will the boy finally get a dog as his pet and will this change his life to the fairy tale that he always longs for?
The story is adorable and the boy's love for animals is made evident through the story and the pictures. The pictures complement the story very well and breathe life and movement into the characters and scenes. It's a good bedtime storybook for parents and grandparents to read to their kids and grandkids. The book is also good for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The book inculcates a sense of responsibility and bonding in young readers. It's a story that kids who love animals will enjoy. The adventures the boy has with his pets are exciting and the tale teaches kids to be responsible and treat animals with kindness and love. Stories with a concept, conveying a message/moral are perfect for kids and this book does just that. A beautiful story with a beautiful moral.
