Author Biography

D. Bryant Simmons, an award-winning author and Chicago native, is also the publishing force behind Bravebird Books. As a writer, her focus is on realistic fiction that straddles the line between art and social commentary. She is currently hard at work on the Morrow Girls Series, a family saga that spans three generations of women. Simmons manages to incorporate meaty topics such as domestic violence into her fiction without sacrificing entertainment value.

TJ, a smart high school student with the potential to go to college but lacking motivation, wants to be a singer like his idol R Kelly. Looking at his life in The Boy Scout: A Novella by D. Bryant Simmons, nothing in his environment indicates that his dream will ever come true. The elements hindering his aspirations are: his mother, Diedra, her boyfriend, Damien, and TJ's best friends, Tig and Mike. Damien has now become Deidra’s drug dealer and pimp, with whom she appears to be madly in love, and is now living with them. Tig aspires to be like Mike, but Mike is the true thug between the two of them - he’s all about the money. One day, TJ, Tig and Mike witness a cold-blooded murder. Later, TJ finds out that Damien and the Vice Lords committed the murder. Now what is TJ to do, who does he tell? Did Damien and the Vice Lords see TJ and his friends when they committed the murder? Will TJ turn in Damien? What about his mom - will she believe that Damien was part of the murder? If you want to find out how things turned out for TJ, I suggest that you pick up a copy of The Boy Scout: A Novella by D. Bryant Simmons today!

I enjoyed The Boy Scout: A Novella by D. Bryant Simmons. It is a great short story and it keeps you guessing at every turn. Simmons cleverly brings the elements of the streets into what a lot of our youth aspire to be - a singer, rapper or athlete. Simmons pulls no punches in bringing truth to the story. This is ideal for our youth of today to show them that there is another way. There is some profanity but not much and it does not get in the way of the story. D. Bryant Simmons is an author to watch; she is building her brand and her fan base. Simmons has some upcoming series work that I am sure you will love so be one of the first to pick up your copy of The Boy Scout: A Novella by D. Bryant Simmons and spread the word.
