When actress Kelly Myers and contractor Larry Townsend meet at a fundraiser at her mother's Victorian mansion in San Francisco, it seems like a match made in heaven. The relationship is straight out of a fairy tale with a whirlwind courtship, storybook wedding, and romantic honeymoon in Acapulco. It's too bad that the groom's disappearance shatters this storybook tale of romance and, worse yet, reveals that Larry Townsend isn't all that he seems! The Bride Stands Alone by Jackie Ullerich takes readers on Kelly's heartbreaking journey from wedded bliss to a grieving bride that never has a chance at "happily every after" when her husband's past follows him to the altar, and beyond.

The Bride Stands Alone is an outstanding tale that takes readers all over, from Phoenix to Los Angeles and San Francisco, to Turkey, Istanbul, and other exotic locales that reveal the underside of Larry's undertakings to secure his successful business. The story has so many twists and turns that you can't help but keep reading! The characters are also so realistic that I believe these could be my friends and neighbors, despite the fact that they live in a world different from my own. Kelly is a great, strong protagonist who deals with the grief of her husband's disappearance and double life in ways that are both realistic and inspiring. She's not only a good actress, but a wonderful, strong woman. This is no doubt due to her strong ties to family, which is an element that I really like because it's rare to read a book where the protagonist has a good, functional relationship with their parents and siblings like Kelly does. The book keeps you guessing, and comes together in the most unexpected way in the end. Jackie Ullerich does a wonderful job of creating a great story with wonderful characters that share the world she's seen with readers.
