The Crystal Crux - Betrayal: YA Edition (Volume 1) by AM Werner is the revised version of an original title. Crafted for young adult readers, this compelling work features interesting characters and creatures like wolves, dragons, lizards, and winged horses. It is the time of civil war, and it is hard to trust anyone. The Spanish knight, Pero de Alava, is betrayed by the powerful Fabbro family, and those he cares about are put in danger. He must dare the impossible to save their lives. He chooses to face the Eagles Pass, but can he stand against what awaits him?

The Crystal Crux is a well-crafted tale of bravery, unusual courage, a tale of love and sacrifice. What happens when one’s faith and trust are betrayed? I loved the focus on the loyalty of the knight. I loved the characters who are memorable and interesting to watch as they develop psychologically. AM Werner’s writing is good and very accessible. The short chapters are well crafted to make readers turn the pages, curious about what happens every time they come to the end of a chapter. The author also shows great imagination when it comes to characterization and plot, and readers will most certainly remember characters like Pero de Alava and Gherardus. The story begins with action, the assassination of Meliore Fabbro, and the plot becomes complex from that same moment. Readers are surprised at every turn as the story progresses, making unexpected twists. I enjoyed a lot about this story. Overall, it is a satisfying read!
