The Daggerman by Glenn Starkey is about the unlikely friendship between Jesus and an assassin, Hanan. Both were born on the same fateful night. One to a loving family, the other from a brothel. Hanan is marked at birth by the demon Abaddon to serve a darker purpose, one that becomes reality. Throughout his career serving his two adopted uncles as a member of the Sicarii or daggermen, he remains close to his friend Yeshua even going so far as to kill an assassin who was out to kill him. Hanan even warns Yeshua of his impending betrayal by Judas but Yeshua already knows. God is guiding Yeshua on his path while Abaddon is guiding Hanan on his. One man is to become the prince of peace while the other is the leader of the feared Sicarii. Will Hanan stand in the path of destiny or let it happen? This book gives the reader a whole new side to the story of Jesus and provides an interesting backstory to an unlikely friend. One man stands for love, the other for vengeance. Two paths are bound to cross.
The Daggerman by Glenn Starkey is a very original take on an old tale. The addition of the demon guiding people through their decisions was an interesting angle. The story of Hanan is one that many can relate to. He believes in doing the right thing but goes about it in a very disturbing fashion. Be it protection and reverence for his friend, Hanan is a character that goes against everything that Yeshua stands for, and yet the two are friends. The backstory lends itself to the imagination and delivers quite a spin on the old teachings of the Bible. Glenn Starkey did an amazing job putting these two unlikely people together and it works. One is for love and the other lives a sinful life, but find time for each other in the midst of events. Very well detailed with dates, which lends more credence to the story. I highly recommend this book.
