The Dance of Open Hearts is an action-packed fantasy adventure by A.R. Larson. Elly Felton's life turns upside down the day she meets Telemon, a talking cat from another universe who teleports her and her friends to Meerland. Telemon reveals that Elly's friend Timothy's mother, Maria, is being held captive by the Lor King, who wants to use her teleportation machine to encroach on other worlds. Elly, Timothy, and their friends Alice and Benson team up with Telemon, the Faery King Rajaa, and his captive, Lor Prince Eskovan, on a quest to rescue Maria. After their stint at the treacherous Wastelands, they eventually find their way to the Frog King, who reluctantly agrees to help them. However, to defeat the Lor King, one of them must make the ultimate sacrifice.
Action, romance, and magic lace the pages of The Dance of Open Hearts. Whether it's the emotional stakes, the nail-biting action sequences, or the distinct magical races, this book has got everything you want in a fantasy. Author A.R. Larson has created a magnificent world filled with imagination and wonder. One of the things that stood out to me was how the different magical races/factions were depicted. Every kingdom has its own motivations, where the ruler does what he deems best for his people. The political intrigue adds more depth to the world and makes it feel more authentic. Another highlight was the character relationships. Elly and Rajaa will have you wishing they end up together, while Eskovan and Alice are just adorable. I also found the character of Benson very interesting. Fantasy readers should definitely grab a copy!
