Harry Bosch is nearing retirement. He has 36 more months before he will have to leave. He and his partner are given a cold case to work on. While they are getting information on that one another case is dropped in their laps, one which had just happened. The son of Harry's nemesis is dead and it looks like an apparent suicide. Harry grabs both cases and immediately starts to ask questions. In the first case the person of interest was 8 years old when it happened and Harry has to find out how the boy's blood was found on the victim. In the second Harry does not think it is suicide and has to figure out what actually happened to George Irving.

Michael Connelly is one of my favorite authors. I know when I pick up one of his books that I am going to love it and this one did not disappoint me. Harry Bosch is tenacious in ferreting out what happened and why in each of his cases. Connelly lures you in from the first couple of pages and takes you on a ride that does not let up. You can just see the wheels turning in Harry's head as he works out the cases before him. There are likable minor characters in Harry's partner, former partner, and his daughter, but the focus is mainly on Harry as it should be. You will find lots of suspense and good detective work in this book. An excellent read by a truly excellent author. I highly recommend this book for mystery fans.
