Author Biography

Cindy L. Shirley grew up in a small town in Cherokee County, Georgia. She is a wife, mother of two, and grandmother of one amazing granddaughter. She loves working with children and has tons of hilarious stories to share. "So many heartfelt conversations and silly experiences took place during my time working as an ASP teacher. Kids just want to feel acknowledged and share their day with someone". It was during her time working with students that Cindy decided to pursue a business in entertaining children. Mrs. Shirley founded "Let's Pretend Parties" in 2006 and continues to work with children of all ages as a party planner and hostess to this day. She is involved with annual community and family events throughout both Cobb and Cherokee county school systems. These activities, along with personal experiences, are the basis for her upcoming children's books: "Diesel the Body Guard; No Bullies Allowed!", "Doodle and the Magic Christmas Float", "Mom, Where Did You Go?", and her new series, "The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick". These stories are based on real characters from Cindy's family, as well as her childhood experiences. Her creative and fun-filled story lines were written to bring a smile to children's faces. When asked about becoming a new author, Cindy said "I will consider this new adventure to be a huge success if I can just make children laugh."

The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie's Sassy Birthday (Volume 2) by Cindy L. Shirley is a captivating read that features Minnie, a beautiful, stylish and sassy hen. She lives with Carly and Riley who constantly fuss over her. The two sisters have made it their mission to provide Minnie with everything and include her in all they do. They create moments with her and consider her to be their best friend. From dancing to rock music to playing beauty shop, Carly and Riley have the best time with Minnie, who seems to be enthusiastic and happy around the two girls. On top of what the girls do with their unusual friend, they organize a birthday party for her which becomes the culmination of all their excitement and enthralling, fun-filled activities.

The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie's Sassy Birthday (Volume 2) by Cindy L. Shirley is a story coupled with fun and humor. The activities the girls engage in with Minnie will leave any reader laughing. Best of all is the love that the three friends share. Carly and Riley go out of their way to make Minnie a part of them and organize the best birthday ever. Their fun-loving and enthusiastic personalities are also a great addition to the story and will definitely resonate with many readers. The idea of using a hen for the main character was a great idea which added a comical and interesting twist to the story. This was also enhanced by Cleoward Sy’s illustrations. I definitely recommend Cindy L. Shirley’s book to young readers who love a fun and captivating tale.

The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie’s Sassy Birthday is written by Cindy L Shirley and illustrated by Cleoward Sy. Minnie lives with Carly and Riley who are two sassy young ladies, and Minnie is close behind. The story follows the two girls and their amazing chick as they dress up, don make-up, and generally have a good time. Not to be outdone, Minnie the chick has her beak painted red, wears beads and - her favourite – wears a tiara. Add to that everyone at the table eating spaghetti, and it is clear this family has a really fun time every single day, with very understanding and tolerant parents, it must be said. But although the girls are a handful, they are fun and charming and considerate of their chick. What a happy home to be in.

This book is great fun and will be enjoyed by young readers, but is also perfect for a parent or adult to read to their child. The lovely colourful illustrations really bring the story to life, even down to the make-up on Minnie the chick, the great star glasses, and the bright eye shadow. Any young child will love this book and love the three characters, because this is not just about the chick but also about the two girls, Carly and Riley, and the lovely relationship they have. The author, Cindy L Shirley, has created great characters and a smile a page book. Minnie the Chick is clearly a star in the making.

The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie's Sassy Birthday, Volume 2 is a children’s picture book written by Cindy L. Shirley and illustrated by Cleoward Sy. Carly and Riley love their sassy little chick, Minnie, and they’re pretty excited about throwing a special surprise birthday party for her. Minnie will be a year old, and she is now a beautiful hen with lovely pink top feathers and long, lustrous eyelashes. Minnie loves playing with Carly and Riley, who like to pretend that they’re famous musicians and dress up. Minnie’s top feathers are the perfect length for braiding into pigtails, and she loves the attention her two best friends give her. Riley dresses Minnie up with makeup and jewelry, and Carly gives her spa treatments complete with foot-soaking treatments and blow-drying for her feathers. When Minnie’s birthday finally arrives, the whole family is excited. Carly and Riley’s parents are ready and waiting for the birthday girl and her best friends to make a grand entrance.

Cindy Shirley’s children’s picture book, The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie's Sassy Birthday, Volume 2, is a fun and light-hearted story about two young sisters and their pet chicken. Shirley’s story highlights the love and friendship pet animals can bring into their human companions’ lives while also telling the story of the two sisters, Carly and Riley. Cleoward Sy’s illustrations are brightly colored and work perfectly with the story line. I especially enjoyed seeing Minnie enthusiastically and, sometimes, patiently enjoying every aspect of her interactions with the two girls. She’s silly, funny and definitely endearing. This is a grand selection for story time, but it’s also a good choice for newer readers to try on their own. The illustrations and careful use of vocabulary will make it challenging but not overly difficult for most. The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: Minnie's Sassy Birthday, Volume 2 is most highly recommended.
