FBI Agent Josh Metcalf is haunted by a little girl who went missing during his first summer on the force. Years later, hundreds of children who had psychic abilities disappeared and their cases went cold. Everything changes when a woman gets injured trying to stop an abduction. NASA’s meteorite hunter Rowan Wilson is struggling with her dark childhood memories – memories that draw her closer to one of the missing children. Highly intriguing, The Faithful by S.M. Freedman is an intricate modern tale revolving around the world of the occult.

This is a very gripping story right from the beginning. The plot is complex yet excellently well written, thus eliminating the possibility that readers might be overwhelmed by the multifaceted storyline. Author S.M. Freedman uses a straightforward yet deeply moving literary style at the same time, and I find it an absolute joy to read. The Faithful takes up a dark theme of loss of memories. To be frank, there are some parts of the story that disturb me and are hard to read. However, this is just an issue of my own and this novel is undeniably a great book. Freedman gives a real sense of the perpetual conflict between good and evil.

The characters are well-developed, perhaps the best ones that I've read so far. It is easy to be emotionally attached to some of them and deeply detest the others. S.M. Freedman’s The Faithful has a great combination of mystery and supernatural elements that involve psychics and the occult as well as action and adventure. All in all, I look forward to Freedman’s next work.
