The Fatal Truth (Kathy Hamilton Mystery Series) by Maggie Casteen is a murder mystery that features Margie, a famous reporter for the Rosemont Observer. While preparing an article for publication, she was murdered. The killer deleted everything from her computer and stole all her notes. The killer wanted to make sure that the story she was working on did not become public. Lori found Margie’s body and saw a black truck speeding away, which led to the arrest of Brad Warren. Bailey Clark, Brad’s attorney, had a feeling that Brad was innocent and that he was keeping secrets that could prove his innocence. Kathy Hamilton was asked to investigate the case, and the deeper she dug, the more she realized that there was more to this murder than met the eye.
The Fatal Truth by Maggie Casteen is the fourth book in the series. There are three plots, of which two are not resolved in this story and will be continued in the next installment. The story was intriguing, and I was hooked from the beginning. It was a page-turner, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The chapters followed on smoothly from each other, and it was easy to follow the plot. The characters were authentic and robust. I enjoyed Kathy the most. She was always looking for answers and was not intimidated. The story was brilliantly written and exciting to read. I am looking forward to the next book to learn more about the two other unresolved plots. The major twist at the end was a big surprise and a fitting end.
