The Figure is a gritty cop drama, written by Ken Kirkberry, that features John Mercer, a cop whose life has been frequently dogged by tragedy. His partners, Ray Freedman and Lisa Barrett, are helping him come to terms with the losses he has endured and provide support at work. The Carnello gang is a prominent gangland outfit, but someone is targeting them. Bodies soon start appearing, members of the gang are being killed execution style, and there is no evidence to lead the police, or indeed the remaining members of the gang, to the lone figure that is picking them off. Then it gets personal. The girlfriend of a leading gangster goes missing in horrifying circumstances and time is running out for those who are trying to find her.

Ken Kirkberry has created characters that leap off the page. The Figure is filled with humor, gripping violence and a story that will keep you guessing until the final page. This action-packed book tells a tale of police corruption, underground criminals and raw human emotions that makes you want to read on. The Figure is an accomplished assassin who seems to be a shadow that cannot be caught, and you can feel the frustration of the cops trying to hunt him down and bring him to justice. The final showdown is a perfect end to this fast-paced story and will not disappoint. I look forward to reading more of Kirkberry’s books and I would highly recommend this one.
