Revenge is a dish served sweet in The Final Ingredient, written by Scott Charles. Tammy is a 12-year-old with a big dream to become a famous chef. She is desperate to impress her new classmates and be recognized like the popular girl group, The Circle Girls. She ends up getting tangled up with a dangerous Head Chef after she finds The Booke of Loste Foodes. After completing one of the shocking recipes and getting thrust into fame, she finds out that the book can perform miracles. She soon discovers the nightmarish secret involved. Is the price worth the fame? Will Tammy be able to escape the Head Chef and end the nightmare?

I recommend fans of R. L. Stine's Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? Nickelodeon book series read The Final Ingredient by Scott Charles. I enjoyed reading it as an adult and it's great for thrills and chills during family time. I connected with Tammy and her struggle in wanting to fit in. As I watched her character grow, the theme of being your best self and trusting your instincts about people shines through in her interactions with the mean girl group, The Circle Girls. Her reaction of wanting revenge is natural but as she gets involved with the Head Chef and the requirements of The Booke of Loste Foodes, the question is asked: How far is too far for revenge? The ending gave an amazing twist of fate that I did not expect.
