The Freya Stone by Chandler P. Opall offers a fresh and exciting take on epic fantasy, following four ordinary gnomes who find themselves on an extraordinary adventure. When the powerful troll Evad the Horrible steals the mystical Freya Stone and threatens to plunge the world into darkness, an unlikely group—an elder, an archer, a butcher, and a pubkeeper—must leave their quiet lives behind for a dangerous quest. As they travel through perilous lands and face deadly challenges, the characters discover strengths they never knew they had. The novel uses a lot of classic fantasy elements in the storytelling, but it also focuses on everyday people becoming unexpected heroes, proving that courage and heart can come from the most unexpected places.

Chandler P. Opall brings something different to the genre by shining a spotlight on characters who aren’t your typical warriors or wizards. The fact that gnomes take center stage adds a fresh twist, and I loved how their simple, everyday skills became powerful tools in their journey. The world-building is detailed and immersive, making the setting feel like an ordinary place you could walk right into and suddenly feel the magic. I loved the way the bond between the four main characters grew naturally. They went through one challenge after another but always helped each other with the power of friendship and determination, and that's a warm and important message. What really makes this book stand out is how it celebrates the idea that heroism isn’t just about grand powers or noble birth but about the choices we make when faced with adversity. The smaller, quieter moments between epic battles add depth and make the story even more engaging. Overall, The Freya Stone is a must-read for fantasy fans who love seeing unlikely heroes rise to the occasion, and I would definitely recommend it.

The Freya Stone by Chandler P. Opall is the first book in A Gnome Trilogy. A troll named Evad steals one of the magical Trident Stones from a dragon to obtain wealth and power. Evad also takes a dragon egg, and the hatched little dragon wins the heart of his diligent housekeeper, Loki the Alfar. In the village of Grapfell, gnomes celebrate the Harvest Festival, unaware of Evad's malicious intentions. A gnome from the foraging party hurries to warn the elders about the abductions of his fellow foragers, and the gnomes decide to send an expedition to Esur, the Sprite of the Hidden Forest, and ask for her guidance. Knor, one of the elders, will lead an innkeeper, Finn, a baker, Itsirk, and a butcher, Darb, to the mountain where Esur dwells. Evad the Horrible exploits the gnomes in his crystal mines and uses evil magic to stop the rescuers.

The Freya Stone is for readers who love classic fantasy and adventure. The novel is suitable for young adults and mature epic fantasy fans. Readers preferring intricate world-building and vivid descriptions will find the well-paced narrative appealing. Chandler P. Opall creates endearing characters. Even the villains are whimsical and stir our empathy. Evad the Horrible perfectly demonstrates the negative impact of greed and the lust for power on a person. unusually, Opall makes hardworking gnomes the main characters as they are often overlooked and play supportive roles. Knor, Itsirk, Darb, and Finn will surprise readers and change their perceptions of gnomes. Yet the most intriguing character is the resourceful and compassionate Loki, who plays by her rules and makes unorthodox decisions. The author has a unique writing style with a subtle touch of humor. The dynamic action scenes add zest. I cannot wait for the second part of the trilogy.

Chandler P. Opall's The Freya Stone introduces us to Evad the Horrible, a devious troll who travels to the world of Serpentara to steal a magical stone and a dragon egg right from under the watchful eyes of Nyrac, a ferocious Mor dragon assigned to guard the stone. This powerful, magical stone can bring forth hope or immeasurable darkness--depending on the heart of its wielder. With this coveted stone, Evad seeks to dominate the entire land. Summoning an army of Wicker soldiers, Evad viciously kidnaps gnomes from the peaceful village of Grapfell to work in his crystal mines. The elders of Grapfell task Knor, Darb, Itsirk, and Finn with rescuing their beloved comrades and stopping Evad's evil schemes. Meanwhile, an unforeseen enemy stirs in the background. Can our brave heroes subdue Evad once and for all? Or are they doomed to fail?

In The Freya Stone, Chandler P. Opall delivers an exhilarating tale that blends magic, danger, betrayal, and the battle between good and evil into one epic adventure. Packed with whimsical characters, including ogres, dragons, sprites, Cleerys, and elves, every page bursts with energy and intrigue. Our four enthusiastic heroes (Knor, Darb, Itsirk, and Finn) are set on a journey that tests their individual skills, wits, mettle, and ability to work together, making this a gripping and engaging read. From start to finish, emotional depth, unwavering action, and high-stakes situations resonate in every chapter. Fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will immediately fall in love with this tale. I'm eager to discover the role Opall has in store for Sor in the next installment. If you enjoy books about mythical creatures or tales where characters develop their inner strength, this novel is an absolute delight. The Freya Stone is a thrilling escape for readers, young and old.
