The Ghost Ring by Tom Hoffman delivers a blend of supernatural elements, mystery, and adventure set in a haunted college dormitory. The novel follows the protagonist, Simon Moody, a college freshman whose mundane life takes a thrilling turn when he learns that his dorm room is haunted by a ghost known as “the coughing ghost.” The narrative is rich with humor, suspense, and a touch of romance, making it an engaging read for those who enjoy young adult fiction with a supernatural twist. The book begins with Simon’s ordinary college life but quickly shifts into a higher gear as he and his best friend, Clara, investigate the ghostly presence in his dorm.

Tom Hoffman’s writing style is lively, providing detailed descriptions that vividly depict the college environment and the ghostly phenomena. The dialogue is sharp and witty, enhancing the dynamics between characters, particularly in their interactions with the supernatural. While the pace of the narrative is generally brisk, there are moments when it slows down, allowing for character development and a deeper exploration of themes, such as friendship, courage, and the unknown. These slower sections build tension and deepen the mystery. The Ghost Ring is an enjoyable read that successfully combines elements of mystery and the supernatural with the trials and tribulations of college life. Hoffman’s ability to create a compelling, eerie atmosphere while maintaining a lighthearted tone is a notable strength of the book. This novel is recommended for readers who appreciate a good ghost story with interesting characters and a mix of humor and suspense.

The Haunting of Caligo Farm is the third installment of The Ghost Ring Series by Tom Hoffman. Paranormal investigators Simon Moody and Clara Barley have another fascinating mystery on their hands when they discover the ghost of a former Harvard student in Clara's dorm room. The two friends uncover a love story that ended tragically in 1841. After visiting the Scott Gallery exhibit of Edmund Wilder's paintings, Simon and Clara encounter the ghost of Silas A. Morgan, an artist who was murdered in the 1930s while working on the painting titled Brother Adam's Farmhouse. Following one clue after another and equipped with an ancient ghost ring, Simon and Clara embark on a quest to find out who killed Brother Adam and Silas Morgan. But there is another layer to the story.

The Ghost Ring: The Haunting of Caligo Farm is the perfect paranormal mystery novel to start the new year. With each turn of the page, it seems there is a newer mystery to be revealed in this captivating tale of two paranormal investigators who stop at nothing once they have a case to solve. Tom Hoffman has masterfully brought together the genres of sleuth mystery and paranormal thriller in a story that offers thrills, suspense, and intrigue galore. Using multiple plot threads, the author weaves an intricately crafted narrative that gets its hooks in you from the first page and keeps you invested until the last. The chemistry between Simon and Clara is undoubtedly the main draw of this series. But I also enjoyed the quirky side characters who added their own charm to the tale. In The Ghost Ring: The Haunting of Caligo Farm by Tom Hoffman, Simon and Clara received an invitation from Simon’s aunt to attend an exhibition of Edmund Wilder’s artwork. Among the pieces was an unfinished painting of a haunted old farmhouse, and Simon and Clara witnessed the ghost of the artist attempting to finish it. There were rumors surrounding a gruesome murder. The farmhouse’s owner had been killed, and someone from the farm had mysteriously disappeared. The painter behind the artwork was Silas A. Morgan, but there was no clue about the farmhouse's location. Simon and Clara’s quest to find the farmhouse brought them to Caligo Farm, where they discovered that Brother Adam had established the property. Brother Adam transformed the farm into a sanctuary for those who had lost their employment and savings, yet little was known about his origins.

The Ghost Ring: The Haunting of Caligo Farm by Tom Hoffman was a thrilling read filled with excitement. The writing style captivated me from the beginning to the end. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and I flipped through the pages as fast as possible. There were amusing moments that made me laugh aloud, providing relief from the more serious themes. The unexpected twists frequently caught me off guard, shifting my focus to the next possible suspect. Each character, including the ghosts, felt authentic and had a distinctive background. In The Ghost Ring: The Haunting of Caligo Farm by Tom Hoffman, Simon Moody and Clara Barley possess the Sacred Shadow Ring of Persephone, which allows them to communicate with and see ghosts. Clara discovers that her dorm room in college is haunted by a ghost from the 1800s. Using their psychic abilities, they uncover that the ghost is Henry, a mathematics student from Harvard who was strangled the night before he was to elope with his lover. His murderer was never found, and an uncracked cipher is the only clue left behind. As they work to solve this mystery, they are confronted with another case: the murder of Brother Adams, a pioneer of Caligo Farm who provided reprieve during the Great Depression. Adams' death was followed by the mysterious disappearance of a painter, who now haunts his unfinished painting at the local museum. Can Simon and Clara solve these two perplexing cases while balancing college life?

The Haunting of Caligo Farm is the third book in the Ghost Ring series. It can be enjoyed independently, though it includes plenty of backstory from the previous books. Readers will love Simon and Clara—paranormal investigators and lovebirds—with their inside jokes and playful banter. Simon is a freshman studying quantum physics, while Clara majors in psychology. Together, they use their expertise to understand their rare abilities. Alternating between Harvard and their small town, Caligo Falls, they have ghosts to free and murders to solve. Tom Hoffman's book is perfect for fans of paranormal stories, murder mysteries, and historical cold cases.
