The Good Fortune by Shawana Davenport is a children's picture book about having fun with family and friends. Frannie and her little brother Willie love visiting their Aunt Bea every summer because they play games and listen to her old stories. One particular summer, the duo knocks on Aunt Bea's cottage door and is overjoyed to find Miss Minnie there because, with her around, Frannie cannot lose a game to her aunt. Aunt Bea promises that they will play the best game ever. Frannie is excited because the rules are simple; roll some stones with numbers and land on your fortune, but Aunt Bea's games are not ordinary. Immediately after Frannie starts the game, the ground begins to shake, and they are all transported to a mythical land. Join Frannie, Willie, Miss Minnie, and Aunt Bea as they enjoy family time together and embark on a magical adventure.
I loved reading The Good Fortune because of its unusual plotline and stunning scenery. I was thoroughly surprised by the unexpected turn of events. Shawana Davenport leads the reader into thinking this is just an ordinary family time storybook, but it is much more than that. The tale covers themes of love and togetherness. These are all vital ideals to instill in children. All the characters had great chemistry and cheerful personalities. The book contains colorful illustrations depicting lush fields and adorable characters. I recommend parents and guardians read this book with their children and teach them about the joy of spending time with loved ones. An amazing story.
